[[Takashi Araya]] is an author, martial artist and [[Japan Ground Self-Defense Force|JGSDF]] veteran (1982–2008) who established the first special forces of the [[Japan Self-Defense Forces|JSDF]].<ref name="jsdf-bushido"/> Araya wrote the 2015 book ''To those who Fight: Japan's Cause and Bushido''.<ref name="araya"/> He describes the essence of bushido which was created over a thousand years, and stresses the importance of training soldiers with bushido.<ref name="araya"/> He argues the purpose of Japanese martial arts is not to kill other people, but to cleanse their evil spirits and open the way for coexistence and co-prosperity.<ref name="araya"/> He says by training soldiers with bushido they can become the strongest fighting special forces.<ref name="araya"/> He wants JSDF members to inherit bushido to be brave and live dignifiedly.<ref name="araya"/> By using the action philosophy of bushido, they can become not only strong technologically, but also spiritually.<ref name="araya">{{cite book |author=Takashi Araya (荒谷 卓) |title=戦う者たちへ (日本の大義と武士道) |date=August 31, 2015 |publisher=並木書房 |isbn= 978-4-89063-332-6 }}{{page needed|date=April 2021}}</ref>
