A 17 million NIS renovation project was completed in November 2007 which reinforced the runway and made it suitable for future [[wide-body aircraft]]. In September 2008, a new [[Instrument landing system|ILS]] serving the runway was activated. The main runway was closed from 2011 until early 2014 in order to accommodate the extension of runway 03/21 and other construction activity in the vicinity of the runway.
