===Social policy=== For many years, the Green Party has advocated against the "Ehegattensplitting" policy, under which the incomes of married couples are split for taxation purposes. Furthermore, the Party advocates for a massive increase in federal spending for places in preschools, and for increased investment in education: an additional 1 billion Euros for vocational schools and 200 million Euros more BAföG (Bundesausbildungsförderungsgesetz in German, approximately translated to "the Federal Law for the Advancement of Education") for adults.<ref>{{Cite news|url=http://www.n24.de/n24/Nachrichten/Politik/d/2778022/gruene-steuerplaene-treffen-die-mittelschicht.html|title=Kritik am Wahlprogramm: Grüne Steuerpläne treffen die Mittelschicht – N24.de|newspaper=N24.de|language=de-DE|access-date=16 December 2016}}</ref> In its 2013 platform, the Green Party successfully advocated for a minimum wage of 8.50 Euro per hour, which was implemented on 1 January 2015.<ref>{{Cite web|url=http://www.mindest-lohn.org|title=Gesetzlicher Mindestlohn in Deutschland|website=www.mindest-lohn.org|access-date=16 December 2016}}</ref> It continues to press for higher minimum wages.<ref>{{Cite news|url=https://www.economist.com/europe/2020/01/02/the-stars-have-aligned-for-germanys-greens|title=The stars have aligned for Germany's Greens|newspaper=The Economist|access-date=11 March 2020|issn=0013-0613}}</ref> The Greens want the starting retirement age to remain 67,<ref>Pieter Vanhuysse, Achim Goerres, Ageing Populations in Post-Industrial Democracies: Comparative Studies of Policies and Politics, Routledge, [https://books.google.com/books?id=EVNB8B2bZIUC&dq=Green+Party+germany+retirement&pg=PA94 94], 2013</ref> but with some qualifications{{snd}}for example, a provision for partial retirement.{{Citation needed|date=August 2017}}<ref>{{Cite web |title=Retirement age |url=https://www.citizensinformation.ie/en/employment/retirement/older_people_and_working/retirement_age_in_ireland.html |access-date=15 March 2022 |website=Citizens Information |language=en |url-status=live |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20220629200610/https://www.citizensinformation.ie/en/employment/retirement/older_people_and_working/retirement_age_in_ireland.html |archive-date= Jun 29, 2022 }}</ref> The party supports and has supported various forms of [[Rent control|rent regulation]].<ref>{{Cite web |date=July 19, 2023 |title=Mieter*innen schützen – Preisspirale bei Mieten stoppen |url=https://www.gruene-bundestag.de/themen/bauen-wohnen-stadtentwicklung/mieterinnen-schuetzen-preisspirale-bei-mieten-stoppen |access-date=22 March 2023 |website=Bundestagsfraktion Bündnis 90/Die Grünen |language=de-DE |archive-date=22 March 2023 |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20230322161041/https://www.gruene-bundestag.de/themen/bauen-wohnen-stadtentwicklung/mieterinnen-schuetzen-preisspirale-bei-mieten-stoppen |url-status=dead }}</ref> During the 2021 election, the party called for rent hikes to be capped at 2.5% per year.<ref>{{Cite web |last=Kisling |first=Tobias |date=18 September 2021 |title=Miete und Wohnen: Parteiprogramme zur Bundestagswahl im Check |url=https://www.waz.de/politik/bundestagswahl-2021-partei-programm-wohnen-miete-id233352775.html |access-date=22 March 2023 |website=WAZ |language=de-DE}}</ref> The Greens support [[progressive taxation]] and is critical of FDP efforts to cut taxes for top earners.<ref>{{Cite web |title="Also je reicher man ist, umso mehr kriegt man noch Steuervorteile von CDU & FDP und das wird dann als bessere Politik verkauft.
