During the [[Great War]], Palestine was wrested by the armies of the [[British Empire]] from the [[Ottoman Empire]] and in the [[aftermath of World War I|aftermath of the war]] it was entrusted to the [[United Kingdom]] to administer as a [[League of Nations]] [[Mandate for Palestine|mandated territory]]<ref>The Mandate for Palestine.
