Owing to its distance from open sea and its position on the southeastern portion of the European continent, Romania has a climate that is [[continental climate|continental]], with four distinct seasons. There are some regional differences: in western sections, such as Banat, the climate is milder and has some Mediterranean influences; the eastern part of the country has a more pronounced continental climate.
