[[Thermo Fisher Scientific]] came to the Richmond area in December 2021 when it acquired the contract research organization [[PPD, Inc.|PPD]]. Capital One and Philip Morris USA are two of the largest private Richmond-area employers. [[DuPont]] maintains a production facility in South Richmond known as the Spruance Plant. [[UPS Freight]], the less-than-truckload division of [[United Parcel Service]] has its corporate headquarters in Richmond.
