== Internal security forces == The major part of the PAP is the ''nèiwèi bùduì'' ({{lang-zh|s=内卫部队}}); translations include "internal security forces",<ref name="Wuthnow2019" />{{rp|2}} "internal security troops",<ref name="ZiYang24Mar16"/> and "internal guards corps".<ref name="Guo2012" />{{rp|232}} Internal security forces are divided into [[Provinces of China|provincial-level]] formations<ref name="Wuthnow2019" />{{rp|11–12}} with geographical areas of responsibility.<ref name="Wuthnow2019" />{{rp|2}} They are subordinated to PAP headquarters;<ref name="Wuthnow2019" />{{rp|10}} the 2017-2018 reforms removed control of PAP units from local government.<ref name="Wuthnow2019" />{{rp|11–12}} Internal security forces are focused on domestic security missions, maintaining stability in western China, guarding government compounds, disaster relief, and responding to major anti-government unrest.<ref name="Wuthnow2019" />{{rp|2}} The ''zǒngduì'' ({{lang-zh|s=总队}}) is the provincial formation.
