==Death==
Thiệu and his wife Mai Anh celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in [[Hawaii]] when the [[September 11 attacks]] happened. The fact that both planes ([[American Airlines Flight 11]] and [[United Airlines Flight 175]]) that crashed into the [[World Trade Center (1973–2001)|World Trade Center]] had departed from [[Logan International Airport]] in Boston, had certain psychological effects on Thiệu and also affected his health. Because much of the air travel was affected by the attacks, the couple was stuck in Hawaii for more than a week. He died on 29 September 2001, aged 78, at [[Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center]] in [[Boston]], after he collapsed and was put on a respirator due to a [[stroke]] which he suffered at his [[Foxborough, Massachusetts|Foxborough]] home.<ref name=lat/><ref name=nyt/> His funeral was held on 6 October 2001, in [[Newton, Massachusetts]]. He was cremated and the location of his ashes is unknown.
