Kim Deal generally plays four-string solid-body bass guitars and always uses a [[plectrum|pick]],<ref name="gp1991-04">{{cite magazine |title=Interview with Kim Deal |magazine=Guitar Player |date=April 1991}}</ref> particularly the "[[Dunlop Manufacturing#Tortex|green Dunlops with the little turtle on them]]",<ref name="bp2004-11">{{cite magazine |last=Leigh |first=Bill |title=The Pixies' Kim Deal Turns a Modest Approach into a Big, Big Sound |magazine=Bass Player |date=November 2004}}</ref> although since the Pixies' reunion she has also been using custom green Dunlops with "KIM" written on them.
