Unlike Bulgaria's Land, Air and Naval Forces, however, it fell outside of the Joint Forces Command structure, having been assigned directly under the authority of the Chief of Defence. The brigade was transformed into the JSOC, taking effect on November 1, 2019, and its commander, [[Brigadier general|Brigade General]] Yavor Mateev was promoted to a [[major general]] as the chief of the new command.
