The [[World Health Organization]]'s [[International Classification of Diseases]] (ICD) has changed in regard to BDSM in recent years.

On 18 June 2018, the WHO ([[World Health Organization]]) published [[ICD-11]], in which sadomasochism, together with [[Sexual fetishism|fetishism]] and fetishistic transvestism ([[cross-dressing]] for sexual pleasure) are now removed as psychiatric diagnoses. Moreover, discrimination against fetish-having and BDSM individuals is considered inconsistent with human rights principles endorsed by the United Nations and The World Health Organization.<ref name=":ICD1" />
