===Religious life===
Albany County was originally settled primarily by Protestants from northern Europe: the Netherlands, British Isles, and Germany. In the 19th century it was a destination for many Catholic immigrants, first from Ireland – fleeing the [[Great Famine (Ireland)|Great Famine]], and later from southern Germany, central and southern Europe. Late 19th and early 20th century immigrants included Jews from eastern Europe.
