== View on social Darwinism == While James accepted Darwin's theories of biological evolution, he regarded [[social Darwinism]] as propagated by philosophers such as [[Herbert Spencer]] as a sham. He was highly skeptical of applying Darwin's formula of natural selection to human societies in a way that put the Anglo-Saxons on top of the chain.
