Incursions in Wales were decisively reversed at the [[Battle of Buttington]] in Powys, in 893, when a combined Welsh and Mercian army under [[Æthelred, Lord of the Mercians]], defeated a Danish band.

Wales was not colonised by the Vikings as heavily as eastern England. The Vikings did, however, settle in the south around [[St. David]]'s, [[Haverfordwest]], and [[Gower Peninsula|Gower]], among other places. Place names such as Skokholm, Skomer, and Swansea remain as evidence of the Norse settlement.<ref>Williams, John Garnons.
