In 1849 [[Jean Baptiste Pompallier|Bishop Pompallier]] visited [[St Leo's Convent]] in [[Carlow]], Ireland, seeking sisters to emigrate; eight left from St Leo's, led by [[Mary Cecilia Maher|Mother Mary Cecilia]].
