==Honours and awards==

In 1989 the society and orchestra received an honorary fellowship from [[Liverpool John Moores University]] and in 1991 they became one of the first organisations to be awarded the Freedom of the City of Liverpool.  The City of Liverpool granted them an honour of Meritorious Service in 1997.  In the Classic FM Gramophone Awards 2007, Vasily Petrenko was named Young Artist of the Year.
