He was found collapsed on the bathroom floor and was rushed to the hospital by ambulance,<ref name="Amburn"/>{{refpage|p231}} where he died of a heart attack at the age of 52.<ref>Clayson, Alan, p. 213.</ref> A public memorial attended by friends, family, and fans was organized by friend Jean Shepard and held at the College Heights Baptist Church in [[Gallatin, Tennessee]], on December 11.<ref name="Amburn"/>{{refpage|p233}} In Los Angeles, Barbara Orbison organized a "Celebration of Life" attended by friends and celebrities at the [[Wiltern Theatre]] on December 13.<ref name="Amburn"/>{{refpage|p234}} Orbison's body was buried at [[Westwood Village Memorial Park Cemetery]] in an unmarked grave.<ref>Clayson, Alan, p. 215.</ref><ref name="Amburn"/>{{refpage|p233-5}}
