Paganism's public rituals are generally calendrical,{{sfn|Strmiska|2005|p=38}} although the pre-Christian festivals that pagans use as a basis varied across Europe.{{sfn|Strmiska|2005|p=39}} Nevertheless, common to almost all pagan religions is an emphasis on an agricultural cycle and respect for the dead.{{sfn|Strmiska|2005|p=40}} Common pagan festivals include those marking the [[summer solstice]] and [[winter solstice]] as well as the start of spring and the harvest.{{sfn|Strmiska|2005|p=38}} In Wicca and Druidry, a [[Wheel of the Year]] has been developed which typically involves eight seasonal festivals.{{sfn|Strmiska|2005|p=40}}
