Throughout the city, an estimated 1,500 people were evacuated from their homes when a nearby levee broke, causing a record-setting flood. One hundred forty six of those people were residents of the Millington Navy Base. Shelters for displaced residents were set up at the Baker Community Center and the United Methodist church. No injuries or fatalities were reported.<ref name="FloodArticle">{{Cite web|url=http://www.myeyewitnessnews.com/news/local/story/curfew-enacted-in-flood-damaged-millington/121NN1_9MUeexXb9PFQVIQ.cspx//|title=FloodArticle}}</ref><ref name="Flooding brings chaos">{{cite web|url=http://www.commercialappeal.com/news/2010/may/01/thunderstorms-pound-memphis-area//|title=Flooding brings chaos}}</ref> The National Weather Service in Memphis estimated {{convert|10.00|in|mm}} of rain over the two-day period for Millington.<ref name="NWS Estimates 10 inches of rain in 48 hours.">{{Cite web|url=https://www.weather.gov/error.php?bysite|title=National Weather Service|publisher=www.weather.gov}}</ref>
