[[Scholastic Corporation|Scholastic]] published an autobiography by Kwan in 1998, titled ''Heart of a Champion'', which is now in its sixth printing.<ref name=USbio />

In 2005, Kwan's family opened the EastWest Ice Palace in [[Artesia, California]]. In January 2009, Kwan was appointed a member of the [[President's Council on Physical Fitness and Sports]] by [[George W. Kwan has been a longtime supporter of the [[Special Olympics]], taking part in "unified sports" events that bring together athletes with and without intellectual disabilities.
