Limassol has many beaches, suitable for sunbathing and swimming. A bathing beach with all the necessary facilities, provided by the Cyprus Tourism Organisation, operates in the Dasoudi area. In 1974, the Port of Limassol became the Republic of Cyprus’s main seaport. Prior to that, the role had been filled by the port of Famagusta, now located in the de facto state of Northern Cyprus, which is not recognised as a legal port by any country except Turkey.
