The teachings of the Katipunan were embodied in a document entitled ''Kartilya ng Katipunan'',<ref>May be transliterated as ''Cartilla'', ''Kartilla'', or ''Cartilya'' depending on the speaker and user.</ref> a pamphlet printed in [[Tagalog language]]. Copies of which were distributed among the members of the society.

''Kartilya'' was written by [[Emilio Jacinto]], and later revised by Emilio Aguinaldo. The revised version consists of thirteen teachings (though some sources, such as the one provided by Philippine Centennial Commission, list only twelve<ref name="kartilya"/>).
