In 2018, 24.9% of the population belonged to the [[North Elbian Evangelical Lutheran Church]], the largest religious body, and 9.9% to the [[Catholic Church|Roman Catholic Church]]. Hamburg is the seat of one of the [[List of bishops of Hamburg#Bishops of Hamburg and Lübeck (as of 2008)|three]] bishops of the [[Evangelical Lutheran Church in Northern Germany]], as well as of the [[Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Hamburg]].
