=== Axis === {{Main|Corpo Aereo Italiano}} At the urging of Italian dictator Benito Mussolini, an element of the Italian Royal Air Force (''[[Regia Aeronautica]]'') called the Italian Air Corps (''Corpo Aereo Italiano'' or CAI) took part in the later stages of the Battle of Britain. It first saw action on 24 October 1940 when a force of [[Fiat BR.20 Cicogna|Fiat BR.20]] medium bombers attacked the port at Harwich. The CAI achieved limited success during this and subsequent raids. The unit was redeployed in January 1941, having claimed to have shot down at least nine British aircraft. This was inaccurate and their actual successes were much lower.{{sfn|Bungay|2000|pp=347β348}}{{sfn|Pearson|Gorman|2020|pp=168β171}}
