===Political status===

The territory is classified by the [[United Nations]] as a [[United Nations list of non-self-governing territories|non-self-governing territory]]. In March 2023, a poll conducted by [[Suffolk University]] among USVI residents revealed 63% supported the territory becoming a [[U.S. state]] while 23% opposed.
