Gershwin's rhapsody has influenced a number of composers. In 1955, ''Rhapsody in Blue'' inspired accordionist [[John Serry Sr.]] to compose his 1957 work ''[[American Rhapsody]]''.{{sfn|Serry|1957}} [[Brian Wilson]], leader of [[The Beach Boys]], stated on several occasions that ''Rhapsody in Blue'' is one of his favorite pieces.
