The oboe is frequently featured in film music, often to underscore a particularly poignant or emotional scene. An example is the 1989 film ''[[Born on the Fourth of July (film)|Born on the Fourth of July]]''. One of the most prominent uses of the oboe in a film score is [[Ennio Morricone]]'s "[[Gabriel's Oboe]]" theme from the 1986 film ''[[The Mission (1986 film)|The Mission]]''.
