The SIZO-1 detention center, IK-1 general prison, and the [[State Security Committee of the Republic of Belarus|KGB]] special jail called "''Amerikanka''" are all located in Minsk. On 15 November 2020, more than 1,000 protesters were arrested during an anti-government protest. Protesters took to the streets in the capital, Minsk, following the death of an opposition activist, [[Death of Raman Bandarenka|Raman Bandarenka]]. The activist died after allegedly being beaten up by the security forces.
