=== Flora === Biogeographically speaking, Melilla is part of the Holarctic Kingdom, specifically within the Mediterranean Region, Western Mediterranean Subregion. In general terms, the typical vegetation of Melilla is Mediterranean forest, characterized by evergreen and xerophytic plants, adapted to the dry summer period. In the Rostrogordo Pine Forests, common species include the Pinus halepensis (Aleppo pine), Olea europaea (wild olive), Ficus benjamina (weeping fig), Trachycarpus fortunei (windmill palm), cypress, and Capsicum annuum (bell pepper). The dominant understory is made up of woody, spiny, and aromatic species: plants such as rosemary, thyme, and rockrose are very typical of Melilla.
