Špiler performed with Laibach as keyboardist and vocalist from 2006 to 2018.]] Laibach evolved from the band Salto Mortale, formed in 1978 by [[Dejan Knez]].<ref name="Janjatović169"/> The first incarnation of Laibach formed in 1980 included Dejan Knez, Tomaž Hostnik, Srečko Bajda, Andrej Lupinc, and Marko Košnik. Soon after that, Knez's relative Ivan "Jani" Novak and Milan Fras joined the band. First a quintet, Laibach quickly became a quartet and declared that the group had four members: "Vier Personen".
