On 25 June 2013, Chan responded to a hoax Facebook page created a few days earlier that alleged he had died. He said that several people contacted him to congratulate him on his recent engagement, and soon thereafter contacted him again to ask if he was still alive. Chan was also the primary catalyst for the creation of review aggregation website [[Rotten Tomatoes]], whose founder Senh Duong was his fan and created the website after collecting all the reviews of Chan's [[Hong Kong action movies]] as they were being released in the United States.
