As part of the wider Tyne and Wear Green Belt area, Durham's portion extends beyond its urban area extents of Framwellgate Moor/[[Pity Me]], [[Elvet]] and Belmont, it being completely surrounded by [[Green belt (United Kingdom)|green belt]]. Landscape features and facilities within the green belt area include Raintonpark Wood, Belmont Viaduct, Ramside Hall, Durham City Golf Course, the River Wear, Browney and [[River Browney|Deerness]] basins, and Durham University Botanic Gardens.
