Almost 10% of the city's area consists of water: There are 676 ponds and 43 canals.<ref name=":1" /> The [[Buriganga River]] flows past the southwest outskirts of Dhaka. Its average depth is {{convert|25|ft|m|disp=flip}} and its maximum depth is {{convert|58|ft|m|disp=flip}}.
