===Rail=== [[File:Whitby railway station.jpg|thumb|Whitby railway station]] [[Whitby railway station]] is a terminus of the [[Esk Valley Line]] from [[Middlesbrough]], operated by [[Northern (train operating company)|Northern]].{{cn|date=November 2024}} It was formerly the northern terminus of the Whitby, Pickering and York Line. In 2007, the [[North Yorkshire Moors Railway]] began a summer service on that line between [[Pickering, North Yorkshire|Pickering]] and Whitby operated by steam locomotives, as an extension of their long-standing Pickering-[[Grosmont, North Yorkshire|Grosmont]] service.{{cn|date=November 2024}} The [[Scarborough and Whitby Railway]] followed a coastal route and was built in 1885.
