Suva has a number of parks and a few gardens. [[Albert Park (Suva)|Albert Park]], in the City centre, is famous as the stage for many national-historical events such as the Independence of Fiji, the landing by [[Charles Kingsford Smith|Kingsford Smith]] on the Southern Cross and many parades and carnivals. Sukuna Park, also in the CBD is a popular recreational park and has many performances and events on a weekly basis. [[Thurston Gardens]] (named for [[Governor of Fiji]] [[John Bates Thurston]]) is the city's main botanical garden and the location of the Fiji Museum. Queen Elizabeth Drive is popular as a scenic walk along Suva's foreshore. Many city residents go to the [[Colo-i-Suva Forest Reserve]], a short drive from the city centre, to swim under the [[waterfall]]s.
