The jack, or target ball, is a small ball made of [[wood]], traditionally [[boxwood]] or [[Beech#Wood|beechwood]], {{Convert|30|mm||abbr=on}} in diameter.<ref>In 2002 the FIPJP began certifying non-wooden "synthetic" or "resin" jacks, and in 2013 began certifying synthetic jacks capable of being picked up by a [[magnet]].
