===Road=== [[File:King Street, Lancaster, with the castle in the background - geograph.org.uk - 945333.jpg|thumb|King Street, with the castle in the background]] The [[A6 road (England)|A6 road]], one of the main historic north–south roads in England, passes through the city centre, with northbound and southbound traffic on separate streets, and crosses the Lune at [[Greyhound Bridge]] northbound and [[Skerton Bridge]] southbound (these are the two furthest-downstream road crossing points of the Lune).<ref name=citymap /> The road leads south to [[Preston, Lancashire|Preston]], [[Chorley]] and [[Manchester]] and north to [[Carnforth]], [[Kendal]], [[Penrith, Cumbria|Penrith]] and [[Carlisle]]. The [[M6 motorway]] passes to the east of Lancaster with junctions 33 and 34 to the south and north.
