==End of Campeche== In 1821, the [[schooner]] {{USS|Enterprise|1799|6}} was sent to Galveston to remove Lafitte from the Gulf. One of the pirate's captains had attacked an American merchant ship. Lafitte agreed to leave the island without a fight, and on May 7, 1821, departed on ''The Pride''. His men burned the Maison Rouge, fortress, and settlement.<ref name=davis432>Davis (2005), p. 432.</ref> Lafitte reportedly took immense amounts of treasure with him, and was accompanied by his [[Mulatto|mulatta]] mistress{{who|date=July 2018}} and an infant son {{who|date=July 2018}}.<ref name=davis432/> Maison Rouge was long believed to have stood at 1417 Harborside Drive, near the Galveston wharf, but the foundations there have been dated to the 1870s.
