The current mayor of Humacao is former Senator [[Rosamar Trujillo Plumey]], of the [[Popular Democratic Party of Puerto Rico|Popular Democratic Party]] (PPD). She was first elected at the [[Puerto Rican general election, 2024|2024 general elections]]. Trujillo Plumey is the daughter of [[Marcelo Trujillo]], a former mayor of Humacao from 2001 until his death in 2019.<ref name="PH">{{Cite web|url=https://www.primerahora.com/noticias/puerto-rico/notas/fallece-el-alcalde-de-humacao//|title=Fallece el alcalde de Humacao|date=September 15, 2019|language=es|website=Primera Hora}}</ref> The city belongs to the [[Puerto Rico Senatorial district VII]], which is represented by two Senators.
