In 1973, Cooke was awarded an honorary [[knight]]hood ([[Order of the British Empire|KBE]]) for his "outstanding contribution to Anglo-American mutual understanding." After Alistair Cooke's death the [[Fulbright Program|Fulbright]] Alistair Cooke Award in Journalism was established as a tribute to the man and his life and career achievements.
