Other religious groups have been observed to practice some form of theopneustic glossolalia. In the 19th century, [[Kardecist spiritism|Spiritism]] was developed by the work of [[Allan Kardec]], and the practice was seen as one of the self-evident manifestations of spirits. Spiritists argued that some cases were actually cases of [[xenoglossia]].
