==Politics== The county has consistently voted for the Republican Party, though Democrats have usually gotten at least 30% of the vote. The only Democratic presidential candidate to win the county since 1936 was [[Lyndon B. Johnson]] in his 1964 landslide, who only narrowly won the county by just 93 votes and a margin of victory of less than 1%. San Juan County is the most populous county in New Mexico to lean Republican. The cities of Farmington, Bloomfield, Aztec, and Kirtland all lean strongly Republican, as does the rural area in the north and east of the county. The rural districts to the southwest around Nageezi, which have a high Native American population, saw a Republican trend in the 2024 election and flipped to give Donald Trump a slim majority. The western half of the county including the community of Shiprock, an area which is dominated by the Navajo Nation, votes traditionally Democratic.<ref>{{cite web | url=https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2025/us/elections/2024-election-map-precinct-results.html?unlocked_article_code=1.qk4.9CUE.eUcpg0mNRL9r&smid=url-share | title=An Extremely Detailed Map of the 2024 Election | work=The New York Times | date=January 15, 2025 | last1=Datar | first1=Saurabh | last2=Marcus | first2=Ilana | last3=Murray | first3=Eli | last4=Singer | first4=Ethan | last5=Lemonides | first5=Alex | last6=Zhang | first6=Christine }}</ref> {{PresHead|place=San Juan County, New Mexico|source=<ref>{{Cite web|url=http://uselectionatlas.org/RESULTS|title=Dave Leip's Atlas of U.S. Presidential Elections|last=Leip|first=David|website=uselectionatlas.org|access-date=April 2, 2018}}</ref>}} <!-- PresRow should be {{PresRow|Year|Winning party|GOP vote #|Dem vote #|3rd party vote #|State}} --> {{PresRow|2024|Republican|34,264|17,464|1,198|New Mexico}} {{PresRow|2020|Republican|32,874|18,083|1,337|New Mexico}} {{PresRow|2016|Republican|27,946|12,865|5,299|New Mexico}} {{PresRow|2012|Republican|28,849|15,855|1,533|New Mexico}} {{PresRow|2008|Republican|27,869|18,028|614|New Mexico}} {{PresRow|2004|Republican|29,525|14,843|638|New Mexico}} {{PresRow|2000|Republican|21,434|11,980|1,243|New Mexico}} {{PresRow|1996|Republican|17,478|12,070|3,005|New Mexico}} {{PresRow|1992|Republican|13,415|11,302|5,564|New Mexico}} {{PresRow|1988|Republican|16,202|11,094|454|New Mexico}} {{PresRow|1984|Republican|18,690|8,963|257|New Mexico}} {{PresRow|1980|Republican|15,579|6,705|1,215|New Mexico}} {{PresRow|1976|Republican|10,852|8,615|216|New Mexico}} {{PresRow|1972|Republican|10,788|4,296|886|New Mexico}} {{PresRow|1968|Republican|7,664|4,036|2,485|New Mexico}} {{PresRow|1964|Democratic|6,808|6,901|183|New Mexico}} {{PresRow|1960|Republican|7,521|5,370|294|New Mexico}} {{PresRow|1956|Republican|5,194|2,425|71|New Mexico}} {{PresRow|1952|Republican|3,864|1,659|18|New Mexico}} {{PresRow|1948|Republican|2,407|1,544|14|New Mexico}} {{PresRow|1944|Republican|1,438|1,093|9|New Mexico}} {{PresRow|1940|Republican|1,757|1,445|5|New Mexico}} {{PresRow|1936|Democratic|1,345|1,530|69|New Mexico}} {{PresRow|1932|Democratic|925|1,506|204|New Mexico}} {{PresRow|1928|Republican|1,436|724|4|New Mexico}} {{PresRow|1924|Republican|889|819|273|New Mexico}} {{PresRow|1920|Republican|985|831|28|New Mexico}} {{PresRow|1916|Democratic|385|637|46|New Mexico}} {{PresFoot|1912|Democratic|203|493|370|New Mexico}}
