Most of the mountain has been protected and is not subject to development. In 2000, the Metacomet-Monadnock Trail was included in a study by the [[National Park Service]] for possible inclusion in a new [[National Scenic Trail]].<ref>[http://www.mmmtrail.org/ MMM National Scenic Trail] {{webarchive|url=https://web.archive.org/web/20071008120916/http://www.mmmtrail.org/ |date=October 8, 2007 }}. Retrieved December 12, 2007.</ref> The resulting [[New England National Scenic Trail]] includes the [[Mattabesett Trail|Mattabesett]] and [[Metacomet Trail|Metacomet]] trails in [[Connecticut]] and the Massachusetts portion of the Metacomet-Monadnock Trail, giving it some of the status accorded to the [[Appalachian Trail]].
