On writing, Amis said in 2014: "I think of writing as more mysterious as I get older, not less mysterious. The whole process is very weird&nbsp;... Interviewed by [[Sebastian Faulks]] on BBC television in 2011, he said that unless he sustained a [[brain injury]], it was unlikely he would write a children's book: "The idea of being conscious of who you're directing the story to is anathema to me, because, in my view, fiction is freedom and any restraints on that are intolerable ...
