At the beginning of 2008, Stiglitz chaired the [[Commission on the Measurement of Economic Performance and Social Progress]], also known as the Stiglitz-[[Amartya Sen|Sen]]-[[Jean-Paul Fitoussi|Fitoussi]] Commission, initiated by President Sarkozy of France. The Commission held its first plenary meeting on April 22–23, 2008, in Paris.
