The IAF played a critical role in the [[2006 Lebanon War]]. IAF strikes—mainly, though not exclusively, in [[southern Lebanon]]—were aimed at stopping rocket launches by [[Hezbollah]]'s militia targeting Israeli towns. The IAF flew more than 12,000 combat missions during this war. [[International reactions to the 2006 Qana airstrike|Widespread condemnation]] followed the July 30 [[Qana airstrike|IAF airstrike]] on a building suspected to be a militant hideout near the village of Qana, in which 28 civilians were killed.
