====Early modern philosophy==== In his book ''[[Meditations on First Philosophy]]'', [[René Descartes|Descartes]] refers to an "intuition" (from the [[Latin]] verb {{lang|la|intueor}}, which means "to see") as a pre-existing knowledge gained through rational reasoning or discovering truth through contemplation.
