* The Italian critical edition of the ''Dialogue'' is Catherine of Siena, {{lang|it|Il Dialogo della divina Provvidenza: ovvero Libro della divina dottrina}}, 2nd edition, edited by Giuliana Cavallini (Siena: Cantagalli, 1995; 1st edition, 1968). Cavallini demonstrated that the standard division of the ''Dialogue'' in into four treatises entitled the 'Treatise on Discretion', 'On Prayer', 'On Providence', and 'On Obedience', was in fact a result of a misreading of the text in the 1579 edition of the ''Dialogue''. Modern editors and translators, including {{harvp|Noffke|1980}}, have followed Cavallini in rejecting this fourfold division.
