Commuter train service was offered historically at [[Caldwell station]] on the Caldwell Branch, which ran from [[Great Notch, New Jersey|Great Notch]] to [[Essex Fells, New Jersey|Essex Fells]], with service offered starting in 1891. The borough of Caldwell bought the station in 1965 from the [[Erie Lackawanna Railway]] and demolished it later that year.<ref>Schweiterman, Joseph P.
