===Abbeys===
In repentance for marrying his cousin [[Mathilda of Flanders]], William ordered two [[abbey]]s to be built on the [[Pope]]'s encouragement:
*[[Abbey of Saint-Étienne, Caen|Église St.-Étienne]], formerly the ''Abbaye aux Hommes'' (Men's Abbey). It was completed in 1063 and is dedicated to [[St Stephen]].
